Siuro Church

Siuro Church, designed in wooden Art Nouveau style by master builder Heikki Tiitola, stands high on a rocky hill overlooking the lake. Built originally in 1910 as a prayer house, it was consecrated as a church in 1938. In 1956, the Siuro Prayer House Association donated the building to the Nokia parish.
During a major renovation in the 1980s, designed by Jaakko Nieminen from Nokia, the church interior was converted into a versatile multifunctional space. The hall can easily be adapted for use as a concert venue, dining area, or celebration hall in addition to services.
The current 8-stop organ, the church’s second, was built in 1958 by the Kangasala Organ Factory. The altarpiece, painted by Lauri Hämäläinen in 1951, depicts Jesus Preaching from the Boat.
In 1918, the church was used for other purposes from January to July: first as a hospital by the Reds, and later in the spring as a barracks and canteen by the Whites. In 1940, the building also briefly served as accommodation for Karelian evacuees.
